Meat Puppets

A

Am I a fan?:  Yes! I am a little obsessive with them. I have been listening to them since the mid 80’s. Love the punk meets psychedelic meets desert rock sound

Favorite song:  So many good ones! prob Up On The Sun…I remember Phish’s old soundman Paul playing it during intermission in the mid 90’s

Favorite album: Huevos (SST) from 1988……sotra raw yet trippy

Favorite member: Curt Kirkwood, he is a great songwriter and guitar player, as well as a pretty chill person to talk to

Seen live?: At least 40 times since 1988, the live shows are always great. Search “popskull” at the live music archive on archive.org to listen to the many shows I have transferred and posted over the years. https://archive.org/details/MeatPuppets

Unpopular opinion: Meat Puppets were riding the coattails of Nirvana unplugged. Kurt Cobain was a huge fan of Meat Puppets and fought MTV to have them appear. “Backwater and “Too High To Die” would of been popular even if they did not appear on unplugged

Band rate: 10/10 They are touring this fall, you all should get out to see them and say hello if your in the DC area

I got to see John Lee Hooker a few times in the 80’s and 90’s……him and his coast To coast Blues Band rocked it! Hurry the bottle mamma, it’s great fruit wine
Kick off your high heel sneakers, it’s party time

For Elena's day-drubkedness [sic].

I saw this when it came out in theaters……the soundtrack was way better than the movie (ditto for the remake of Sgt Peppers)

I am guessing this was taken in New Orleans….they really know how to celebrate these types of events and turn them around into a party

I recognize Jack, Grace, Sally, Spencer, and I believe that is Jack’s brother Chick behind Sally….he was a roadie for the band

1. Recognise the importance of forgiving yourself. Not forgiving yourself will deplete your energy, and leave you feeling all chewed up inside. It keeps you living in the past instead of living in the present – so it’s hard to make the most of what’s happening today.

2. Recognise the effects of…

After Midnight> Eleanor Rigby> After Midnight

This is my favorite versions of this medley. At just under 20 minutes, it is def one of the longer ones from this tour. The keyboard player in 1980 Ozzie Ahlers was over the top in terms of musicianship and really pushes Jerry. I love the 4 piece stripped down sound

You can download a tagged mp3 here

(if you stream it, try and pause it for about a minute as it might skip due to the length)

I freaked my parents out the other night playing this “rewhipped” album.

Having been exposed to Herb Albert as a kid, the remix LP is pretty good and has local faves like Thievery Corp as well as Medeski Martin and Wood on it
